So, finally I got around and posted a comment in the discussion thread over at generation_kill! I've read this second part of the book a few weeks ago already, but just didn't write my thoughts and favorite quotes down. But now I've got it. ;) If you're interested, I'll copy what I wrote at the comm and put it behind a cut here.

Alright, it took me *a while* to get here (all work and no play... you know), but I still want to write down my favorite quotes and thoughts of this part of the book, before I read the rest (yeah, I haven't finished it yet :( ) and comment in the other thread as well. :)

"When the shock wears off, we're gonna be pissed. Maybe, if we're lucky, we'll be the ones to get revenge for this." [page 78]

"That afternoon, I'd still believed in the so-called pease dividened. Now my generation had its own Pearl Harbor, and I was an infantry lieutnant in the Marines. I could have been in medical school or wearing a suit to work. How could I have done this to my family?" [page 80]

Despite the last sentence, while reading this, I felt that Nate didn't regret his decision joing the Marines, even though it might sound that way.

"My machine gun section leader, Staff Sergeant Law, was instructing. 'Ok, listen up, all you pussies who've never been in a fight. If you can fuck or play baseball, you can fight. It's all in the hips.'" [page 84]

- "Semperfu", Marine Corps Martial Arts Program, where his troops "were kicking my ass on a rubber mat." *g* I loved this!

"You're it, fellas. A hundred million American men would like to be in your shoes right now. We have the honor of fighting back." [page 89]

After Marine read Kipling's poem: "If I'm wounded, Staff Sergeant, and you fuckers leave me on Afghanistan's plains, I'll put my last bullet between your shoulder blades before I put it in my own head." [page 117]

BAMF!Nate! ;)

Espera: "If my grandma killed a Marine, she'd be on my shitlist." [page 118]

So Espera! LOL So very well protrayed on the show, as well. I can totally see him saying that! *g*

Being badass no. 2754... :P Carrying like 200 pounds of equipment and ammo and stuff: "Strong men hauled heavy loads over rough ground. There was nothing relative about it - no second chances and no excuses. It was elemental and dangerous. It was exactly why I'd joined the Marines." [page 134]

I can't really say anything except - divorce your wife and marry me, Nate! (nah, just kiddin' of course! :P)

Oh BAMF!NATE! *clutches heart* How I love thee!

Other then the part with Bravo-2 that is my favorite part. I love the give and take he had with Staff Sergeant Keith Marine. I really like how Marine ends up telling him it's okay when Marine gets moved jobs.
